Hello, I have gpsbabel 1.4 on Ubuntu Linux, and I want to create some garmin gpi files for my Garmin eTrex Vista HCx from Open Street Map data. As a programmer/hacker, mangeling the data is the easy part. I got my OSM data (just the nodes for amenities & tourism) and successfully convert it to garmin_gpi with gpsbabel. However it put all the POIs in one big list, sometimes with just the 'osm-id-1234' as a name. Not very helpful. I see garmin_gpi has options to use notes/description, but where does it get that data from? How do I process my input file to get what I want to show up? If I convert the OSM to GPX, it might be easier to work with (right?), where (in that file) would I put the category/notes/etc.? Can I have multiple categories in the same .gpi file? (If so how?) Or is it only one category per .gpi file? How do I set a category per POI? Thanks, Rory |
