I don't think that this is a problem with gpsbabel, but I am posting here in case someone can help debug the problem. Brief summary: I have a Garmin eTrex with a usb to serial converter, that uses a well known chip set. In Ubuntu versions prior to Maverick this all worked fine. On the same hardware, with a clean install of Maverick if I try to run something like: gpsbabel -i garmin -f /dev/ttyUSB0 -o gpx -F waypoints.gpx No errors are reported, but gpsbabel just waits for ever trying to connect to the eTrex. No errors are reported in syslog or messages. Upping the debug in gpsbabel produces no error messages or entries in the logs. I get exactly the same problem when I try with the latest Linux Mint, based on Debian Squeeze. I suspect that this may be either a kernel bug, or a bug in the usb to serial driver. However, despite trying for several days, I can't et anything to produce any sort of log message or error message. Any suggestions on how to get more info gratefully received!
