Hi Herb, I'm not super well-versed in GPredict, but I know for certain that PyEphem is able to do what you ask. PyEphem is a free package which you can install for use in Python (which is also free!). It allows you to do all sorts of celestial calculations. You can use the next_pass() function to find when an orbiting body will be visible from a given ground station. It should be pretty simple to write up a script to find when the body is visible to both ground stations. If you like this option, but are not confident in your ability to code it up, I would be willing to do the coding for you. Let me know! Thomas Murphy ________________________________________ From: Sims, William Herb (MSFC-ES63) [her...@na...] Sent: Friday, May 11, 2018 10:28 AM To: gpr...@li... Subject: [Gpredict-discussion] GPredict and SatNOGS rotor Guys and Gals, Two questions for the group. First, is there a way within GPredict to determine if TWO ground stations can see the same satellite at the same time? Along a work related question we (Marshall Space Flight Center, MSFC) are doing some experiments on the International Space Station (ISS) RF test-bed and due to licensing issues on the station we cannot downlink data while NOT over pre-determined ground stations (in our we are NOT one of those ground stations but Glenn Research Center, GRC, is). What we want to do is determine when both MSFC and GRC can see ISS at the same time. Is it possible with GPRedict? I realize we can use something Like Satellite Tool Kit but that requires funding other NASA people so I am trying to save our project some money (since I’m already on it). Second, I am using a SatNOGS rotor (AZ/EL) and was simulating tracking a satellite yesterday and noticed something that concerns me. The satellite started on the horizon at say 10 degrees azimuth and during the pass went from 10 – 360 – 350 – 340 to finally close to 190 degrees. The question I have is that once the projected azimuth hit 360 the SatnOGS rotor spun all the way around (went clockwise from 0.1 degrees to 180 to 359 degrees) instead of continuing in a counter-clockwise direction (this is, I believe, because I had the rotor controller set to 0-180-360). I believe had I set the controller to -180-0-180 that it would have worked as expected. The problem is, if I get a scenario of another satellite track that goes from 170 – 180 - -170 - -160, etc. and I was set up for the -180-0-180 it would do the same thing (i.e. go 170, 179.9 then swing all the way around counter-clockwise to -179 etc.). Is that something that one “just has to live with” or should the rotor be capable of doing a full 720 degrees (2 * 360) too keep this from happening? I realize that it would then wrap the coax around the system, but I just want to make sure that I am not missing something here. I used rigctld and everything is working as it should.... Sigh...... Thanks guys.... All - About my earlier message - Alex pointed out that the TLE in question did not use the correct columns. A pal sent it to me but in a message, I put it into a file to import it to Gpredict. When I did that, the columns were not exact. The pal sent the TLE again - as a plain text attachment - and it worked on version 2.2 and 1.3 both. I thought that I had checked the columns but had not been careful enough. Charles Phillips Spaceflight Research, LLC Houston, Texas 713-882-4578 sites.google.com/site/spaceflightresearchprojects/ |

Yes, now it's easy... That's why we like to have ALL relevant information about user's setup included in the initial email ;-) Version 1.3 is very old and buggy and the problem you see has been fixed. You can install the latest version from out Ubuntu PPA: https://launchpad.net/~gpredict-team/+archive/ubuntu/ppa sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gpredict-team/ppa sudo apt-get update Then you will see an update to 2.2.1 in the package manager. I can get the EXACT script running just fine on my Mac (terminal window), that that SAME script (change the device in /dev that it points to) and it doesn't work. I can take the rigctl and send/receive commands just fine on either computer (Mac or Linux). Here is the scritp command that I use: rigctld -m 123 -r /dev/tty.usbserial-AL034145 --set-conf=serial_speed=4800 -v -v & which works fine on the mac, and I change to rigctld -m 123 -r /dev/ttyUSB0 --set-conf=serial_speed=4800 -v -v & to work on the Ubuntu machine. I know that I am talking to the rig on the Ubuntu when I send commands manually as I can see activity and receive data.... rigctl is an interactive tool that you can use in a terminal. Gpredict talks to rigctld - the rigctl daemon - which is a server application. When you have found the proper settings using rigctl, you can launch rigctld using the same command line arguments. Guys and Gals, I am about ready to pull my hair out using rigctl. If I start rigctl by itself, I can read/write to my rig (Yaesu FT897D) just fine, but when I start up gpredict and rigctl I hit the engage button, but after about 1 second the engage toggles back off. The configuration works just fine on my Mac (in a terminal widnow) so aside from the /dev designation name everything works as it is supposed to….. Any suggestions as to where to start looking????? Thanks in advance. Colleagues - First, I do update my TLE list routinely with TLEs from Mike McCants. I am on a Macintosh running Gpredict (version 2 though the "About" claims 1.3) under Unix. I save a plain text file in a folder, give it a name like new-tle.txt - and update. A pal tracked a very interesting satellite - we think that it is SensorSat or ORS-5. It is a low altitude, near zero inclination, satellite and so very unusual. The pal sent me a couple of TLEs and I am getting the "ignore input" problem. I have the TLE in a plain text file in a folder, the file has the name of a Celestrak set of TLEs. I am doing this the way that I always do - and it works with the TLEs from McCants. I got Cees Bassa to send a TLE - it is also ignored. I opened the file with VIM and do not see any invisible characters in it. Hmmmm. Ideas? I wonder if it is some problem with line endings? How does Gpredict recognize a TLE when it is in a file? It would be helpful if a future fix could be to report back to users when we ask Gpredict to update from local files - and the application does not see a TLE in the folder. I could happily send a copy of the TLE if anyone is interested. Charles Phillips Spaceflight Research, LLC Houston, Texas 713-882-4578 sites.google.com/site/spaceflightresearchprojects/ |

It's located together with the .trsp files in ~/.config/Gpredict/trsp/ Note that this is a file downloaded from the SatNOGS database and will be overwritten the next time you update. So will the changes you make to the .trsp files. Changes to transponder data is now made in the SatNOGS database: https://db.satnogs.org/ Alex |

Where is 'transmitters.json' stored (Ubuntu), where is it downloaded from, and can I locally modify it? I can't find it. Nigel A. Charles and Andrew i just did a 'sudo port upgrade outdated' on my imac and it upgraded to gpredict 2.2 alas the fonts are still small. That command updates all your installed ports. if you substitute gpredict for outdated i.e. 'sudo port upgrade gpredict' you can just update gpredict. thanks, chuck |

Alexandru - It is usable so fix it when you can get to it. > And the displays are not as readable as 1.3, the font is really small for my old eyes and the application appears to have a less sharp appearance. I also run JSatTrak and it is a Java application, now Gpredict looks more like JSatTrak. I am continuing to look at the preferences to see if I can increase font size. It depends which texts. Fonts on the standard GUI elements like menus and buttons are configured globally through the desktop. I can imagine that Gtk+ configuration on Mac OS X may not be properly since it is not an integrated toolkit. It can probably be very bad on high DPI display. The font on the map and the polar plots are currently hardcoded in the program. There is an open issue about it and will eventually get fixed. Alex |

At the end of the day I want a MAP, a table, a thing that can print a list of passes I can tick off, and doppler and rotator correction I want my prediction software to be able to flip to the next pass and do this SeeSat , no The closest thing I found to what I want is MacDoppler, but it wont support Software defined radio doppler correction just serial I have been watching Gpredict get closer to this every day A -----Original Message----- From: Charles Phillips [mailto:ch...@sp...] Sent: Wednesday, 10 January 2018 12:25 AM To: Gpredict discussion <gpr...@li...> Subject: [Gpredict-discussion] Question From Gpredict User Andrew - Can I ask you a few questions? I am always looking for people that track satellites, or listen to them with radio. Can I ask what you use Gpredict for? Are you on SeeSat, the amateur satellite tracking group? Could you look at my Mac Satellite Software pages and give me any comments?
