There has been a discussion on the mingw-users list about this. It has been summarized in: http://mywebpage.netscape.com/yongweiwu/stdcall.htm http://mywebpage.netscape.com/yongweiwu/dllfaq.htm Perhaps prefixing the extern declaration with __declspec(dllimport) solves your problem. I'm trying to use gdbm 1.8.0, and am having trouble linking my program given the distributed libs. The problem is that I'm getting an unresolved extern on _gdbm_errno. gdbm.h defines an extern of gdbm_errno, and the libgdbm.lib has this as a symbol, but not with the preceeding underscore. I'm using vc++ 6.0. Any suggestions? c'est moi - TimS http://www.fourstonesExpressions.com http://wecanstopspam.org |

I'm using Windows95. I type "less somefile.txt" The file appears. I type "/" then some short text to search. For example "m". The letter "m" is in the file... press ENTER less says: "Pattern not found (press RETURN)" I press ENTER. I repeat the search. And when I press ENTER again. A window pops up with title: Less and content: "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down" The [Details >>] button says: LESS has caused an invalid page fault... Is this happening to someone else? Daniel |

Note that Mingw and Gnuwin32 aren't the same. Gnuwin32 only has Mingw import libraries for the DLLs in ported packages, such as libpng, and libiconv. Import libraries for system DLLs such as winsock, kernel32, etc. are provided with the Mingw distribution from www.mingw.org. It seems there are not yet import libraries for net.dll and net6.dll. So you would have to create these yourself. Kees Zeelenberg ----- Original Message ----- From: Mark Leary To: Kees Zeelenberg Cc: gnu...@li... However, the GunWin32 product summary page implies that the gcc compilers already use Mingw : "At present, all developments have been done under MS-Windows 98, using the Mingw port of the GNU C and C++ ( GCC )compilers, although they could equally have been done with Microsoft Visual C++ (MSVC) or Borland C++ (BCC). a similar type of import library is available. Greetings, I am developing a project using freetype2 in linux, however, I have been tasked with whipping up a quick windows demo. I fairly certain I have all my include and lib paths set correctly, but I get the error: "This application has failed to start because freetype2.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." I've tried renaming libfreetype.dll.a to freetype.dll and placing it in the systems diretories with no luck. I have a feeling that I may not be understanding how the .def works? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. One way to do this is to create batch files which first set PATH and then call the relevant program. This is also useful if a program requires the setting of some environment variables. Another way would be to collect all the executables in a single folder. Personally, on my Win98 system, I use both ways: the second one for gener= al utilities, such as the basic GNU utilities, and the first one for more specialized packages. Kees Zeelenberg ----- Oorspronkelijk bericht ----- Van: "Alexander Skwar" <AS...@em...> Aan: <gnu...@li...> Verzonden: zondag 3 november 2002 17:44 Onderwerp: [GnuWin32-Users] Best way to install? Hi! I've downloaded all the GnuWin32 packages from SF.net. Now I'd like to install them. Thanks, the paths were the problem as you thought. Kees Zeelenberg
followed-up to the MinGW Users Mailing list (I crossposted the query
newsgroup-style because I use Gmane; having the news interface creates an
opportunity to use nice ng posting strategies that i just cannot resist). I
answered Kees' reply there.
Best,

Yes, you were right. OK, so I have this working well enough now --
congratulations on having added Groff to all your other ports. I dub you
The Prodigious Porter! -- but I am wondering if you can help me finish the
work so that some noisy complaints are quieted:
On completion, after hitting 'q' to terminate 'less' paging, I get
grotty:<standard input>:41362:fatal error: output error
And also before the 'less' paging begins (it gets wiped out) I get these
lines:
grotty:<standard input>:19: X command without `tty:' tag ignored
grotty:<standard input>:24: X command without `tty:' tag ignored
So 'grotty' isn't happy, do you happen to know what flags to pass through
to 'grotty' to make it shut up?
Thanks!

What might go wrong here is that Groff is not an Msys application but a native Windows one. So it does not understand the GROFF_...._PATH's when they are in the Msys form such as /g/.... Perhaps an MS-Windows bat file which sets these environment variables and then calls groff, will work. I don't use Msys so I cannot try myself. You are still confusing glibc and GLib. glibc is the GNU C library, as used on for instance GNU/Linux. As far as I know it is not available for Windows (other than some small parts perhaps), as it is definitely intended for Unix-like systems. What you seem to mean is GLib, which is something totally different. > I am newbie and a bit > confused by looking at its download link. > http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=23617&release_id=73153 (Remember to scroll that page until you see the highlighted entries.) As it says, that is the *documentation* for glibc. I don't know if Kees is hinting that he is porting glibc to Win32 by providing the documentation package? But anyway, it has nothing to do with GLib. > What all packages i need to install on Window-NT machine to use the main > event loop function on windows > (http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/glib/glib-the-main-event-loop.html). To use GLib, you need to install GLib. http://www.gimp.org/win32/downloads.html . The currently most recent glib runtime zipfile is http://www.gimp.org/win32/glib-2.0.6-20020802.zip . To use it from your programs, also download the developer package, http://www.gimp.org/win32/glib-dev-2.0.6-20020802.zip . You will also need libiconv and libintl, as glib depends on them. Links to these are on the same page. (As it happens, neither is a version provided by GnuWin32, so this thread really shouldn't be on this list...) --tml |
