I would have thought that Gentoo of all distros would be most in favor of automatic searches. In a "normal" distro I could see why you might not want to build a gnuplot package that depends on libcerf even if the build machine happens to have it installed. But I thought the idea of Gentoo was that each package would auto-customize to whatever else was installed on that machine. What am I missing?
