After sending this post, I was suddenly able to get the grid.
I added
set grid spider lt black lc "grey" lw 0.5 back
to the script from the demo gallery.

Hi,
Using the demo gallery examples (e.g. http://gnuplot.sourceforge.net/demo_5.4/spiderplot.6.gnu) and also doing a lot of experiments on my own, I cannot get a grid for spiderplots.
I installed gp540-win64-mingw.exe on Windows 10 from https://sourceforge.net/projects/gnuplot/files/gnuplot/testing/.
Any help/ideas are appreciated.
