#2824 NEWS needs to be updated (missing 6.x release info)
https://sourceforge.net/p/gnuplot/gnuplot-main/ci/master/tree/NEWS just shows 5.4 and to be released 6.0 changes but no official mention of 6.0 release or subsequent 6.x releases.
The NEWS file is only updated for actual releases. You can find it in branch-6-0-stable. There is no need for in the development branch; it's just there as a place-holder for when a new stable series is started.
