My server console now has a desktop login, which doesn't work. Logging in gives a blue screen. I tracked it down to installing gnuplot, which depends and gnuplot-qt ... which ends up depending on xwayland.

I was using gnuplot in a pipeline to draw graphs for a web site, but don't want the gui on the server.

That's an issue not with gnuplot itself, but with

    • how Ubuntu packaged it, and
    • which of the various packages you picked for installation
