    Changing the compiler for this removal of CONSTANT will BREAK many of my programs that use it.

    As it was PRESENT for older versions of the so called ISO standards it should NOT be removed.

    The standard is that older standards can still be active to support older code bases.
    This would break the golden rule.

    I have not carried this change out,

      As noted, I think about removing it. Not now, but possibly 4.x.
      The ancient warning are exactly about updating programs step by step.

      As far as I remember, Brian/Roger/me just came up with that - it never was part of any ISO standard. In hindsight that was bad, because there were already other extensions for that and ISO (likely later) came up with its own variant.

      @dilodilo I've moved a bunch of "bug" items of yours to the patch tracker, as you provide explicit changes that "only" need to be reviewed and applied. We also had bug reports -> where it was not 100% clear how the resolution look like (no direct suggestion).
