Sorry, everyone, I'm not sure what the problem was here.
The reference to /Volumes/Miscellaneous/ is unfortunate, I don't know how/whether newlib could be built so as not to show it; but at least you get the newlib-3.3.0 release ID!
I'm going to stick to FSF work in future (as, for public releases, are AdaCore).
