There are certain drivers that Apple is not able to distribute with=20 Darwin. Either these are closed source drivers from third parties, or=20 are drivers which contain licensed code that can not be freely=20 distributed. Regarless of the reason, some of these drivers are freely=20= available in binary form. They under the "Third-party Drivers" package=20= (see http://www.opensource.apple.com/projects/darwin/6.0/release.html=20 for details). Unfortunately still not all drivers are available as 3rd=20= party drivers and therefore the only way to obtain them is illegally=20 off a OS X box. Secondly the iMac which you have didn't exist when Darwin 1.4.1 was=20 released so drivers for it could not exist at that time. Since the iMac=20= came out drivers were released, but Darwin 1.4.1 was not updated until=20= the Darwin 6.0.2 release came out a few months ago (which GNU-Darwin=20 hasn't updated to yet). As for your question: "how can Darwin be a real indipendent OS if the=20 basic hardware is not supported?" The basic hardware is supported. An=20= advanced video card driver and ppp are not basic hardware. Those are=20 additional items which make using the basic hardware better. There are=20= plenty of real independent OSes that don't contain certain advanced=20 hardware drivers. -jwa On Luned=EC, dic 9, 2002, at 03:11 US/Pacific, Kruznak wrote: > Greetings to all, > I'm Kruznak, a new member of this mailing list.
