I have a Hauppauge WinTV PCI card and I cannot get gnometv to work. I keep getting this message "Overlay mode is not working, because bttv initialized with wrong base address. To load bttv use the following command: insmod bttv vidmem=0xcf0". Also seeing "file gnometv.c: line 253 (gnometv_set_device): assertion 'vdev 0' failed" in a term window when trying to launch the app with "gnometv" from a term window.
Now what does all of this mean? The program does not work. I cannot do "insmod bttv vidmem=0xcf0" as vidmem returns as an invalid parameter. This looks like the coolest linux tv software that there is, how can I get it to work? Any help would be apreicated as I am hoplessly stuck and my WinTV card works excellently in Windows (dual boot machine).

Forget gnometv. There is no help for it and it must be a dead project. Zapping works great with a Hauppauge WinTV card and that is what I use now. You should use it too.
