#6 ! like search but exits when no match

It would be great if there was a search mode which works juz like
! but when search does not match it should stop and return to
normal mode. It would be also great if it goes back to this new
mode when strings matches again, eg:

There is "foo" in history (text in [ ] indicates that it is selected):
User presses f, input reads: f[oo]
User presses q, input reads: fq
User presses BS, input reads: f[oo]
User presses RET, gmrun runs foo
