Swing.. arrrr downer. looks to me like the Swing GLAnimJPanel uses a java.awt.image.BufferedImage now I take it that's Java2 stuff. On the Mac there's no joy with that call, being Java1.1 I need to also pass the data to the TGA exporter, can I still do that using the swing GLAnimPanel ? is there a work around for the BufferedImage ? panic !!! aNt |

I guess it is NOT GL4Java's native libraries, but I am not shure ! GL4Java gives you the following chances to create a stack overflow, or a mysterious memory crash: - allocating a too small array, passing the array to OpenGL, which needs a bigger array ! This semantics are not checked. I have just tried to create this kind of crash, but I was not succesfull :-( Demo "select.java": I gave the "vp"-array just a zero size. "vp" is passed to GL and GLU ! But it works ... may be because the JVM allocates enough memory, so we did not crossed the border to an illegal memory area .. ?! I suppose, that - if somebody has the time - to add semantic arrays checks for another debug-test library ! But this task would be _very_ time consuming, because the many functions we do have. This "user" mistake, or a bug within the GL driver (which one are you using ?), can create those mysterical results ! Try to make JVM's startup and average memory heaps bigger ! If no error will occure, I really would guess, it is about a wrong arrays size. Comments and Ideas about automatically array-size checking for Java<->JNI are welcome. > BTW, remember my posts from about two weeks ago? Hi! I'm experiencing continuous JVM crashes because of GL4Java (GLFuncJauJNI is listed on top of program trace each time). The problem is that those crashes are semi-random ie. I change something insignificant (like variable initial value or even launch another application like currently Netscape) and problem disappears. I don't have any idea how this behavior can be reproduced but it's *very* tiresome and it occures *very* often (several times per hour - note that I have to wait for 130MB core to be dumped each time - it takes time). Again - I don't have to change *anything* in application (but it sometimes works too), just change system environment a little and it 'solves' problem. If anyone has ANY ideas what should I do, I would be VERY grateful. BTW, remember my posts from about two weeks ago? I believe it was one of such situations. I'm using GNU/Linux RedHat 7.0, GL4Java 2.4.0.0 and Sun JDK 1.3. Bye, Max -- ----------------------------------------------- Max Gilead gi...@li... Hi, I saw a post on the website (before I joined the list) about Windows 2000 compatibility. I have GL4Java running very well on Windows 2000, with theSunVM (1.2.2) - also on Win 95 and Win 98 - the libraries were installed manually rather than the web installer. I use JBuilder3.5 to compile and test the apps. If you need more specific info just mail. Hope that helps. I do however have a problem running on the IRIX beta port of the Java1.3 VM. The error message occurs during the GL Initialisation, and reports a String Index Out of Bounds error when detecting the java version. Anyone else have this problem? Nikk |

hello I have an applet up and running but when I tried to run it from an application , it didn't work :-( this is the code i added in my applet: public static void main(String[] args) { Frame myFrame = new Frame("Voronoi"); myFrame.addWindowListener( new WindowAdapter(){ public void windowClosing(WindowEvent e){ applet.stop(); applet.destroy(); System.exit(0); } }); myFrame.setSize(640,480); applet = new Voronoiapplet(); applet.setSize(640,480); applet.init(); applet.start(); myFrame.setVisible(true); } it uses a jar file i use vj++ so the arguments for jview are: /p /cp:p "<JAVAPACKAGES>" Voronoiapplet i believe <javapackages> refers to the classpath var so the jar shouldn't be a problem since I included it in the classpath the only thing I see is an empty white frame! does anybody see the problem? thanks mattie |

I have problems to get GL4Java to work on my Windows 2000 machine. I have run the web installer and everything went smooth there. But I still cant get the demos to work:( I get the following javalog: load native libs:null, null, null java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: gl4java/system/GljMSJDirect.createOGLWindowNativeJDirect Possible causes: If you are trying to use J/Direct (@dll.import), check your compiler version (for JVC, requires 4336 or greater.) If you are trying to use RNI, there are new requirements: see documentation. at gl4java/system/GljMSJDirect.createOGLWindowNativeJDirect at gl4java/system/GljMSJDirect.createOGLWindowNative at gl4java/GLContext.run at java/lang/Thread.run I have MS-JVM machine (build 3234) installed, I have opengl.dll and glu.dll I am able to compile using the jdk1.3, I still cant run them either... Is the resent build not compatible with the Windows 2000? Or am I just doing something really stupid? I have gotten evrything to work on a mac, havent tried on w98 but maybe I can get my hands on one later on. Shit, I cannot reproduce the bug right now. I thought it's so staightforward that it's not worth saving the code. Although I was able to crash JVM without problem. If it happens again I'll save this precious code ;-) Sorry then. Well, we can add a gljGetCurrentContext native function to GLContext. Also we may can add a gljMakeCurrentNoReplace thing to GLContext ! Hello Max. 1. == I tried to call several times gljmakeCurrent(true) in the display method and I didn't get any crash on Windows. I use sun jvm from jdk 1.2.2. 2. == When I need to make gl call outside of display() method, I use the following piece of code: ///// synchronized(MyConstants.synchronizator) // MyConstants.synchonizator is a static String used to // synchronize all gl call. { if (canvas.gljmakeCurrent(true)) { GLFunc gl = canvas.getGl(); GLUFunc glu = canvas.getGlu(); // Here all my gl calls... // .... canvas.glFree(); } /////// Maybe it is too heavy code. I don't know if gljmakeCurrent() and glFree() takes lot of time or not to execute. 3. == Anyway, I agree with you: Checking if a GL context is made already current would be nice.
