This is not the correct fix.  The correct fix is to change the model
ID of the BX535WD to 118 (which uses the same base but default-duplex
input slots).

I think -- I'm in the process of checking -- that B and BX models with
D in their name support duplex; the others don't.

I am using an Epson Stylus Office BX535WD printer. Most Epson BX 
printers are able to print two-sided (duplex, double-sided, 2-sided).

There is no possibility for the user to define duplex in the web 
configuration of cups (localhost:631) nor in any application, because 
the generated PPD printer driver file misses the duplex option although 
the driver itself reports 2-side printing:

To correct this and to be able to select duplex printing the underlaying 
XML definition files which generates the gutenprint printer driver PPD 
must be modified:

Take a look in the XML file 
"/usr/share/gutenprint/5.3/xml/printers/escp2.xml"; most BX printers are 
defined as "model=92".

Patch:
In the XML file
- "/usr/share/gutenprint/5.3/xml/escp2/model/model_92.xml"
the parameter
- "<inputSlots src="escp2/inputslots/default.xml>"
should be corrected to
- "<inputSlots src="escp2/inputslots/default-duplex.xml".

After that the printer driver configuration should be reinitialized in cups:
- delete the current BX printer in the cups web front-end
- stop the cups printing service
- delete the PPD file for the printer from "/etc/cups/ppd/*[BX|bx]*.ppd"
- start the cups printing service
- re-create the BX printer

Now you are able to configure "2-sided" (duplex, two-/double-sided) 
printing in the web front-end.

Hi,

Would you be able to capture (via "print to file") sample output from
this printer and send me the output file (just send it to me, not to
the list -- it will be rather large)?  That would help me analyze what
it's generating.

I was able to use Epson L-382, my previous printer, very efficiently
with Gutenprint. The resolution of these printers was 360dpi and its
multiples.

But now I have a faster model Epson WF-C5210 printer. I want to print
with Gutenprint. Since this printer has a resolution of 300dpi and its
multiples, it is not possible to use existing gutenprint .xml
modifications. I made a few attempts but I couldn't get any output.

My printer works fine with the turboprint program running on Linux.
But I want to use it with Gutenprint.

If you have solution suggestions for this printer, I am waiting to try it.

[Gimp-print-devel] Question on Gutenprint 5.3.3 for Mac OS X

Have the following Canon printers:

MP250, MP480, MP560, MG3222.  The MP250 and MP560 weren't working right with Mac OS 10.14.  I installed the above printer driver on my MacBook Pro with Mojave (10.14) because the Canon printer driver from Canon was not working anymore (when you printed a page, the words had a very large font size and most of the words on the page of course weren't showing up).  After installing your printer driver, the printer started working correctly and I thought, thank goodness I'm able to use this perfectly good old printer again!  Just printed a few emails and now it's starting to print big font sizes again...  🙁  Am wondering if others are having this problem.  I really don't want to have to buy a new printer to be compatible with Mac OS 10.14.  Would you happen to know what the problem is and how I might be able to solve it?  Thanks.

To be very specific, the Mac OS 10.6.x System log shows:

Failed to verify data against certificate.
Invalid Distribution File/Package 

The Mac OS packager is aware of the problem and will hopefully correct it for the next release.

I had a similar problem with the Python installer 3.7.3 and there is an outstanding bug report over there.  Here was the response of the developer:

I cannot find any specific information on what printer language the HP 1025P uses.  Openprinting lists it as a "paperweight" and there are no Mac drivers on the HP site for Macs.  My best guess is that it is a host based printer that on Windows supports.  As such, it does not use one of the common printer languages that Gutenprint supports.

This sounds like a communications issue with the CUPS/network/IPP/TLS
expectations and setup: can you try a straight USB connection? As far
as I am aware, the Canon iP3* and iP4* should print perfectly well,
for many years now. There did use to be a slight issue with paper size
definitions (need to send exact page sizes in points matching what the
firmware expects) for some printers, but this was fixed satisfactorily
several releases ago.

on my Raspberry Pi 4. The printer is attached via usb to the Pi, and I've
shared the printer on the network to print from my Mac.

I'm having some trouble and I think it may be an issue with the driver, but
I'm not sure. Sometimes it will print, and sometimes it will not. When it
does not print, it stalls until I turn off the printer and turn it back on.
If I print again, it usually goes through the second time. Sometimes it
prints double (two copies of the same print job). Every time I print, there
is the yellow exclamation on the printer icon (this appears whether the
print is successful or not).

Any idea as to the cause? I'd appreciate any help I can get. See also
attached screenshots.

Hi,

Unfortunately, we do not have support for Windows in Gutenprint.
There are reputed to be a few third party ports on the net, but I have
no experience with any of them and so can't comment.

I want to install gutenprint so that i can connect my Cannon pixima g2000
series printer.

So i installed gutenprint with this command sudo apt-get install
printer-driver-gutenprint . it installed version 5.2.12  but im not sure if
this installs everything properly or do i need other packages.. Does this
version have g2000 drivers but i can't see the printer in my driver list
when i try to add the printer i have Ubuntu 16.4 LTS 32bit.

Please help me the printers automatically gets detected on ubuntu 19 and
that has gutenprint 5.3.1 .

Thank you for letting us know that everything works well for you.  Unfortunately getting the ink levels with a Mac is not possible for Gutenprint.  Getting ink levels requires a direct two way connection with the printer.  This is not possible with a Mac.  We are glad that the other parts of the utility are functioning.

So what resolution mode have you been specifying? They have names,
like 600x500 DPI PHOTO DRAFT or something like that.
If you are not specifying one, the resolution mode might say "Default" perhaps.
I cannot tell from your attached image if there is any setting for
that in your application.

Yes, there is no calibration for the printer, so the colour table is wrong.

Maybe you need to set up a printer queue separately for that, and then
select that printer.
So whatever your settings are in CUPS for the i9100 are simply being used as is.

In that case, I asume you will need to go the the CUPS web interface
at https://localhost:631 and use that to set up printers and their
settings.

If it were not for Gutenprint my perfectly fine Epson R2400 would be sitting collecting dust now that I have a new 2019 iMac. Much to my dissapointment the Mojave MacOS that came with it does not have print drivers like the older OS I was using, which means the Epson Print Utility 4 that I had been relying on was not to be found. I had been using Gutenprint on some of my printing before, but now it’s the only player to get prints made. I have paired it up with Affinity Photo, with great success so far.

The Epson Print Utility allowed me to do nozzle checks, clean the print heads, and monitor ink levels, so not having it was a problem. I recently discovered the Gutenprint Utility for EPSON Inkjet Printers command sitting in the gimp-print folder that Gutenprint came in, tested it out, and I’m all set except for one thing: how do I check the ink levels? I only see these actions when I run the command in terminal:

   (n) ozzle check
   (c) lean print heads
   (a) lign print heads
   (l) icense -- display license
   (q) uit

Not having the ability to check ink levels is not a problem, as I can just wait for the printer to start giving me flashing lights. It would be nice to have it in the command menu though.

Either way, thank you again for the work you have done on Gutenprint.

Yes, indeed, the Canon driver has no colour calibration, so users need
to utilize the CUPS density parameters to adjust colours.
On the other hand, pixelation sounds like possibly something
different: are you using the photo resolution modes, or just using the
default mode?
For each media type, there are different resolution modes that are
applicable, even if you choose the mode for a different media the
driver will switch to an equivalent mode intended for the media of
choice, but the quality might not be what you want. So please tell me
what media type and what resolution mode you are using.
I am away until 18th January and not able to help with debugging much
further until then.

Of course there are no drivers from Canon for this OS, so I installed
Gutenprint and the printer works with the MacBook. For photos however, the
colors are really bad and the printout is pixellated, with very poor
rendition.
I specified that the paper is photographic quality and I have tried various
printing size.
I could not find in the user manual how to calibrate the color balance
between the printer and the monitor, not how to start the printing
interface you describe in the manual.

Could you please help me with this issue?
