Greetings, having just replaced my old Canon Pixma MX885 with a Canon Maxify MB5150 I find myself not being able to print to this printer from Gentoo (works from Windoze, however, so it's not the printer). Printing a test page directly from within Cups on Gentoo prints a light grey "Printer Test Page" line on the first sheet picked from the paper tray and then moves all paper from the source paper tray to the output paper tray until the former is empty. And when printing a one page PDF from within Okular it doesn't print anything at all but directly moves all paper from the input to the output tray. File "/var/log/cups/error.log" does contain entries, but none that did not already occur with the old Pixma. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any hints appreciated ... Sincerely, Rainer |

Hi there Gimp Print Developers, Best Buy just suggested I buy a Canon, which I ordered because no HP works on newest release of Big Sur 11.2.3? Do you know if this is true? Regards, Jennifer |

Maybe the question is from inexperienced, but ESC/P commands and plumbing can't be captured by other open source drivers? Thee latter work well for my printer, but they lack a lot of configurations that your drivers have. Il mer 17 mar 2021, 02:35 Teodoro Coluccio <teo...@gm...> ha scritto: > I understand.. It uses a printer language that Gutenprint does not support. Gutenprint does not have a maintainer to devolve such a driver. Matt |

Teodoro, If you are using a current Linux distribution (anything in the last couple years) then you should be able to just use the IPP Everywhere driver with this printer since it supports AirPrint and Mopria (both IPP), and that driver will give your duplex support. That said, I'm not sure what we would need to do to add duplex printing support for the printers that support it - the HP PCL3GUI commands are fairly well-known, but we'd need to research the ESC/P command(s) that Epson has added for duplex support. Plus whatever plumbing would be needed to keep track of the current page (to know when to eject the page vs. when to pull the page back for printing the other side...) > On Mar 14, 2021, at 8:50 PM, Teodoro Coluccio <teo...@gm...> wrote: > > Hi,I own an epson ecotank 2750 and I'm using the CUPS + Gutenprint driver v5.3.3 on debian stable (and testing). Hi,I own an epson ecotank 2750 and I'm using the CUPS + Gutenprint driver v5.3.3 on debian stable (and testing). I think your driver is the best, and also the most complete among those available for linux. At the level of settings it is also much more equipped than the official one in windows. However, it lacks a simple but fundamental function.. double-sided printing. I'm trying them all, but every app tells me that it is either "not available" or not selectable. And this only happens with the driver in question, with the others the option is available, because the printer is enabled to do so. Is there anything I can do to print with your driver also double-sided? Unfortunately when I print a lot of pages it is essential. I am attaching a screen of evince pdf reader while I try to print. |

Hello, I'm using gimp-print/gutenprint for 20 years with an epson stylus photo 870. After 9 years non using it, I try to make it works again, and I have problems with the head for the dark (or normal or not light) cyan. I would like to print a cyan page using only dark cyan. Is it easy to do ? (I have not understood the use of light cyna value, light cyan transitin and light cyan density scale (by the way there are not in the same order in 5.3.1 for magenta)). Thanks a lot for the support for so much time, alain prignet |

Hi, I installed Gutenprint v 5.2.10.A on a Mac G5 running OSX 10.5.8. The problem is that my Canon iX6820 is not listed in this early version of GP. I see it is listed as being supported in the big list on your site. Is there a way to add a newer printer to an older version of Gutenprint? Thanks for your help, Steve |

I'm not sure what would happen if we just hand edited the PPD. Are the binaries looking for floating point only? You could just do a string replace of ".000" with "". Otherwise there are a number of places in genppd where "%.3f" can be replaced with "%.0f" to do the same thing. Gutenprint doesn't care about what's in the PPD file per se. |

Your assessment is correct except that I could get the Printer Features to show with the full PPD from the v5.3.4-pre2 and all the others. You have to select Printer Features from a pop-up menu, let it show no features. Next, use the pop-up menu to select some other item such as Layout. Once you do that, you can go back to Printer Features and everything will be displayed. The big prolem here is that hitting ther Print button does nothing. The entire print window is frozen. You can't even go back and choose Layout again. > >> 2) Color laser printer works fine, either simplified or full. > > Correct > >> Is this correct, Steve and Matt? > > I tested the Epson Stylus Photo r80o, the Epson Stylus Photo r1800, and the Canon Pro9000mkII with Gutenprint 5.2.15. All three printers worked fine. All the Printer Features showed and printing was immediate. > > I tried to attach the PPDs earlier and the message bounced back. I will send them uner separate cover. So the R1800 works perfectly but the XP-15000 malfunctions? |

I used the v5.3.4-rc2 download from Snapshots for all the testing. Everything was fine in macos 10.11 El Capitan. It was macos 10.12 where the problems started. Something changed in macos. Everything Gutenprint remained the same. Steve, is there some way for you to see what might have happened? I found a series of steps to take to get the Printer Features to show. I have now gone back to the original v5.3.4-pre2 where we were first made aware of the problem. Now that the pane has been populated, all the Printer Features will show when you select it again. This is with all the media sizes and all the other functions. I'll go back and test this in macos 10.11 and macos 10.12. I am running 10.14 as I believe you are. I wonder what’s different? Steve |
