i have an old HP Color LaserJet 5N , connected to a Mac running 10.4. Seems HP is of no help with the 5N, but I found on hp.com that it understands PCL 5e.
So I'm happy that I got it printing BW using the Gutenberg 5.0 Generic PCL 5e driver and HPJetDirect option. Thanks everyone for the work.
But it doesn't give the color, or I'm doing something wrong. Anyone know what ?
Thank you,
Torsten
PS: if anyone has other suggestions (drivers, projects, packages) to get the 5n under mac to work, I'm open to those too.

Unfortunately, the Gutenprint drivers do not support color printing for the generic PCL 5e language. You can get color printing by using the 'hpijs' drivers available from OpenPrinting. You will also need to install Foomatic-RIP and ESP Ghostscript. "http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs"

Gutenprint does not support color on color laser printers. We would need someone to do the work.
