Are you printing to a locally-attached printer or is the printer attached to a remote system? I suggest you try printing locally (ie on the lpr command line, specfying the print size/etc directly) on the system that has the printer connected. If that works properly, then the problem lies in the rest of the printing stack that Gutenprint has no control over. (ie if Gutenprint prints what it is told to, and performs no scaling/rotation on its own. If handed an incorrectly scaled/rotated image, it will print that as-is!)
If you are using an ancient gutenprint version I would expect that the rest of the print stack (especially cups-filters and even cups itself) is likely equally old full of long-since-fixed bugs.
That said, it is worth mentioning that gutenprint 5.3.5 was released about 1.5 years ago and includes over 4 years of fixes and improvements versus 2.3.4. If the gutenprint release is that old, the odds are that the rest of the stack (especially cups-filters and cups itself) is also out of date and likely has many already-fixed-in-newer-versions bugs.
FWIW, The DNP printer family has been used extensively with Gutenprint in commercial settings for over a decade -- including by DNP's own ID printing products -- so there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the low-level handling of print sizes etc. Even in the 6-year-old 5.3.4 release.

run 'lpoptions -d DP-DS620 -l' to get a list of all legal options the printer accepts.
Notably, 'media' is not among them, but 'PageSize' is.
