When printing graphics, I noticed that the colors seem wrong, as if some details are missing.

I printed this calibration pdf once on Debian with CUPS+Gutenprint v5.3.4, and once on Windows with the Canon printer drivers for comparison.

With Gutenprint, there is a clear discontinuity in the Magenta and Black gradients. The Black gradients look off to my eye, somewhat greenish. I'm attaching a photo of both prints.

I tried changing various settings without any effect on the discontinuities.

When I select anything other than Plain Paper, there is interesting corruption in the printout. If I had to guess, it looks as if there is some kind of RLE compression which goes wrong.

The page margins are also off.

The main problem for me is the color discontinuities. It makes any graphics look really bad. Is there any chance I could load an ICC profile or similar to improve it? Or is it more likely a problem in the driver code?

Any help is appreciated, and thanks for your work!

I'm attaching another photo of a printout with the interesting (RLE?) corruption.

Same problem with Canon Pixma iX6820.

There were a lot of refactor type changes to the last version of gutenprint. This probably broke these drivers. Johannes, are you at all technical?

Yes, I'm not familiar with the Gutenprint code, but I can read C and would be happy to help with debugging.

In bug 756 you can see that I'm experiencing the same problem.

I'm not familiar with the internals of gutenprint, but I can help debug any software and understand the code.

Bug 755 seems related, but not exactly this one.

In that one there are two settings for selecting color-space, where there shall be one. When they don't match colors are wrong, but not as in this bug.

In this one the color gradient is not linear, in that one colors aren't mapped correctly.
