hi,
I add the SELPHY CP1200. Change the contrast for the SELPHY CP820, SELPHY CP910 and SELPHY CP1200 to 1300. (add_selphy-cp1200_and_modify_contrast.patch)
unconventional fix for the photo is printed borderless for all SELPHY.(for_SELPHY_addapt_size.patch)
Automatic configuration OK. Ok USB printing. To print wifi, convert the image to JPG and pass the '-raw' on lp (eg :. lp -raw image.jpg)

That's an interesting observation! Personally, I always use 'raw' Correction, 'photograph' image type, and 'best' precision.

Oh, 'best' switches to using higher precision math internally to avoid rounding losses; it's not likely to make much of a difference visibly unless you're printing very subtle gradients and using the various correction/adjustment parameters built into gutenprint.

Should the default Gutenprint settings be set to "raw" (and "photograph" for type of media) for the Canon Selphy?

I would presume that most (if not all) Canon Selphy users are printing all photo quality images using their Canon Selphy's, although a small percentage might be postcards and artwork.

I would also think setting of "best" quality within Cups should also be default, unless the user is using a battery power for their Selphy? (And we're again assuming there's a massive leap in power consumption...) But on the flip, I cannot immediately see a difference, nor have I spent media resources performing another side by side comparison.

The borderless is an easily found and modified setting within Gutenprint, so the default Cups non-border is not much of a problem here.

I've figured out how to get the newer SELPHY models to accept YMC data, which yields results that are the same as the older ones. If you're okay with doing a git build, I can tell you how to enable that mode and you can compare the results for yourself.

    Yup. I'm here and there!

I'll be glad to go ahead and try what you have.

You'll need to grab and compile the latest gutenprint git code.

Grab the code, edit src/main/print-olympus.c, and get rid of the comment (//) in front of #define CANONSELPHYNEO_CMY

Then compile, install, and you must remove and recreate the printer queue.

I can't promise the output is necessarily better, only that it's more or less aligned with the older selphy models.

Got this, I'll check back in a few days.

    Hi
I would really like to get my SELPHY 1200 printing from my Linux system (Ubuntu 16.04 LTS) but I dont have sufficient knowledge to use the two downloads posted here. Could someone help? (I am fine installing printers, using the terminal if following instructions, can get around the root file system, edit config files etc). Thanks in anticipation

Solomon Peachy: Gentoo's GutenPrint does not include a -9999 version or git/svn/cvs build. It is unlikely I'll be able to easily pull the gutenprint git version, modify & install easily. My Summer agenda is filled, including dealing with an injured cat... so I'll likely not get to testing CMY color! :-(

John Stephens: Support for the Selphy 1200 is already within the latest version of GutenPrint. Just make sure you set Borderless & scaling to 100% if you wish. Also, I think, set Output > Adjust Output > Color Correction: Raw; else you might get some unexpected color shifting. (As I now think, setting to default might push the image through color profile... or something.)

As much as I have tried to advocate Gentoo to push cvs/svn/git (eg. -9999 versions) within the past many years, there was a split within the majority a long time ago that thinks Gentoo should not include such packages or ebuild version, as they're only focus is on stability for the end user and not focused upon the developers. Little doe they realize the true power of Gentoo, and the rational for it's founding. Shrugs... Had there been a -9999 version, I would have had time to easily create a patch and test.

Roger thanks for your post, much appreciated. I originally tried to make the Selphy 1200 print over wireless, but am now successfully using USB which seems to work with GIMP (though not Image Viewer interestingly). Also thanks for tips on adjusting Settings

    Hi,

I went a bit different route than is listed on this thread to install a Canon Selphy 1200. After trying for over 6 months, looking, trying, reading, I got the printer to work in USB mode by doing this simple, single, thing:

Installed the Cups-backend-bjnp package from software manager. Then, Linux (Mint 18.3) found the printer when plugged into USB, and I used the driver it recommeneded: CP910.

It only prints one at a time, so I'm working with trying to get the spooler to handle this, but have been happy with how simple this solution was. It does appear to print the images brighter, like a few have mentioned, but I think the prints look good.

It would be nice if Canon supplied a Linux driver, but I've been reading that Microsoft users have issues with this printer too (spooler, dropped prints, etc).

There is a github entry for this as well that some digital photographers put together to be able to printer stickers, etc, from the Canon Selphy 1200 in Linux:
    https://github.com/abelits/canon-selphy-print

Linux is such a great community!

    Good luck!
    Mike

I'm closing this as being rather obsolete. In the last month or so a commit went in that corrected the gamma curve used by all selphy models. That ought to improve the fidelity vs Windows.
