Folks - I'm not an accountant type, but there are some
things that need to be considered. How are materials and
labor to be tracked. Actual or standard costing, How is WIP
and Inventory handled, These are some of the variables, but
we also need to consider where this ERP database will be
used. What kind of business and in which country. Also
currency, taxes, Sarbanese-Oxley, SEC filings. How
materials, commisions, marketing, overhead are costed out.
Public or private company - too much for me here.
I would believe that the accounting and General Ledger
functions will come about during the other module as we see
how and where the financial side of ERP is tracked in
relationship to the manufacturing process. How WIP is
handled will be first, and then how this translates to the
final GL's. Keep in mind that accountant types may want to
organize these in a manner best suited to the needs of the
Top Management and/or the Officers.
