Hello,

As an ASIC design house we have do work closely with our customers to when designing the IC's application PCB. We frequently get Gerber files for layout review since we do not have all of their layout tools.

We frequently have to trace a net's connectivity to make sure that things are going to work in real life. Gerbv is great for reviewing but it would be even better if one could select and highlight physically connected areas on each layer.

I'd be extremely happy if this feature could be implemented. Thanks for writing such useful software.

Best regards,
eike

    Eike,
Thanks for the feature request. I think this idea is very good. We are contemplating adding the logic for doing DRC, and this feature request would probably be pretty easy to implement once we have that in place. It might take a while to get there though...

    Cheers--
    Julian

I am in the same situation and would just like to add that it would be even better if gerbv could understand the concept of vias and thus be able to follow a trace trough layers.

It would also be great if the nets could be named ("GND", "Vcc" etc.) which would simplify the rewieving process.

Implementing this would make gerbv competitive with expensive program packages (I know because i've been searching for this feature in commercial packages for the last few days).

Excellent idea. Add to that, the ability to specify whether a layer is copper/non-copper and negative etc. this would be killer feature for DRC.
