[Geotools-gt2-users] Labels that are too close together...how to space or filter out?

I have a shapefile of some streets and I am labeling these
streets...however, the lables are too close together and are being
written on top of=20

One another.  Is there a way to space out the labels?  Can I filter out
any labels that are too close together?
