[Geotools-gt2-users] ECQL encoding

Hi,

I am looking for encoding a Filter in an ECQL representation.
I don't want to store Filter in OGC XML which is too verbose but in CQL.

I noticed that there is already a class dedicated to CQL that allows to
encode a Filter in CQL : 
org.geotools.filter.text.cql2.CQL.toCQL(Filter)

but not for ECQL (org.geotools.filter.text.ecql.ECQL)
I can't see anywhere in GeoTools documents a description on the extensions
provided by ECQL? What is the real difference between the 2 languages ECQL
and CQL?

Perhaps CQL is sufficient for my needs and I don't have to use ECQL?
