The DB2 internal geometry representation uses integer coordinate values that are compressed. The ST_AsBinary and ST_AsText functions are provided as ways for applications to work with the spatial data in an industry standard (OGC and ISO) format. The various spatial constructors accept data in the WKB and WKT formats.
