Ciao Martin, ciao Jan, Martin's idea is great. I have been playing lately on extending the HDF plugin that Martin and the guys working with him put inside trunk/spike. I need in a couple of month something more generic for netcdf, hdf and hdf-eos. So far I have been playing a bit with the Imageio-GDAL bindings to get to these data set but since there exists robust java libraries to consume these data sets, I think we should try to find a guy to work on these formats under the gsoc hat. Daniele, the guys who started the work for GDAL-ImageIO is going to graduate soon, but I am pretty sure he would still be availaible for another round of GSOC. He will have all the experience we need to get something to build on top as a community. Other ideas I have in my mind, which are more close to what Jan is doing are new operations to do geometric distortion correction of images. I can see various topics: >georectification of images given a set of GCPs using polynomial warping (we >already have something like it in geotools) >georectification of images given a set of GCPs using splines >georectification of images given a set of GCPs using piecewise approach, >(very good for large swath data) >perspective warp ( I have a lot of code that I never committed in geotools >that I would like to share) >maybe a bit of ui to do control the above >maybe a couple of new projections I am pretty sure that between me and Martin we could easily mentor these tasks, and we would easily find the guys to do the job. What do you guys think? Should I put these tasks into our page? Simone. ------------------------------------------------------- Eng. It took me a while to come back, sorry for being so late... Would you have an interrest in remote sensing images? If so, would you be interrested on NetCDF and HDF encoders/decoders? Those formats are used for many remote sensing data from Nasa and other organisation. HDF and NetCDF libraries exist and we will have to map them to Geotools. But the difficulty is not about using those libraries. The difficulty is that NetCDF and HDF are not image formats; they are data formats and are quite powerfull and generic. I have used a little bit HDF, but up to date I had to write many decoders specific to different kind of HDF data. For example I have a HDF decoder for Sea Surface Temperature, and other HDF decoder for Chlorophylle-a concentrations, an other HDF decoder for Sea Level Anomaly, etc. I would like something more generic, but I'm not yet sure how we could do that. I wonder if we are not stepping in the land of "semantic web"... Martin ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. Earn Cash.
