Hey Frank, all, There's a new draft of a possible document for Copyright Assignment from Geotools contributors to OSGeo on the wiki at the end of: http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOTOOLS/Incubation+for+acceptance+to +OSGeo as PDF and OpenDoc Format. This draft incorporates the FSF Europe's FLA and my earlier drafts. Frank, I'd hope you could consider that doc and that we can work it into shape over the next few weeks (i.e. before real life starts distracting me again). After it meets your 'incubation advisor' evaluation then perhaps you can set some sort of procedure for it as 'OSGeo head and board member.' One issue you asked about was patent rights. This issue was considered in one of the original OSGeo documents (the license doc I believe). Are we not going to ask contributors to affirm they are not adding submarine patents to their work? That seems like a reasonable thing for this letter to do even if it confounds 'copyright assignment' with 'affirmation of good behaviour.' If anyone else has comments and/or issues, please bring them up now. After it passes Frank's and OSGeo's evaluation I hope that we can propose the document as the text we will all sign. cheers, adrian |
