If the issue is, it's taking too long to display 10 out of 10000 points
in a zoomed in area, then it's a index issue. Otherwise, it may be due
to the SLD (can you post both and tell us what do you mean by slow?).

10000 points are not a big data set, so you could try to preload it
into a memory data store, and serve from there.
