The only reason I am willing to go out of my way on the welcome pages is because they are focused on developers and we need volunteers :-) As for why have a list of projects in the first place? Mostly to show that the library is useful and used. Jody [1] http://live.osgeo.org/en/overview/geotools_overview.html |

Hello Jody > How do people feel about: > a) just asking people to send a link to the project I suspect the only way to get a good list of projects is to do the leg work ourselves. > b) if they provide a welcome page we will show the project logo Instead of the welcome pages, what do you think about just a single page with a list of projects, each having a few lines of text and optionally a logo and a small screenshot or other graphic. That format is common in other library sites and is less work to maintain (I'm assuming that the lack of enthusiasm shown for contributing material will also apply to keeping it up to date :) Michael |

A couple months ago I tried ask downstream projects for a "welcome page" introducing their developers (if they have any) to the geotools library. That was not really a success :( Todays blog post about "GeoBatch" (http://geo-solutions.blogspot.com/2011/10/geobatch-public-demo-available.html) makes me want to try again. How do people feel about: a) just asking people to send a link to the project b) if they provide a welcome page we will show the project logo On a related note I would like to make our commercial support items more visible (currently they are off in the user guide). I would like to follow the same guidelines; links to organisations offering commercial support; and a company logo if they have a specific geotools page. For example GeoSolutions would qualify as they mention GeoTools on their support page; where as LISAsoft would not. Cheers, Jody |

Hi Justin and all, The trunk docs build was falling over when trying to transfer the zip files to the doc server: + scp -i /home/tomcat/.ssh/id_rsa_geotools web.zip geo...@pr...:/home/geotools/latest ssh: Could not resolve hostname projects.osgeo.osuosl.org: Name or service not known lost connection I could ssh into geotools.org ok but when I tried projects.osgeo.osuosl.org I get: The authenticity of host 'projects.osgeo.osuosl.org (140.211.15.75)' can't be established. RSA key fingerprint is a7:05:f6:a5:02:ec:92:73:4a:0a:12:16:4c:11:e1:1c. Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? I've temporarily changed the host name from "projects.osgeo.osuosl.org" to "geotools.org" which seems to have fixed the build. Michael |

Just submitted a patch with a first go at an 'about' method (GEOT-3881). Andrea, a couple of questions: - How would you detect whether native jai is installed in a platform independent way ? - Can you explain what you meant by the reference to META-INF folders ? Sorry for dumb questions. I'm having a slow, unproductive, all-useful-neurons-disabled day / week / year... Michael |

I'd add: - the java version used and if the native JAI / ImageIO native extensions are installed (if they don't know what they are, the answer is likely "no") - maybe we could build a simple geotools script that reports most of the above? Like Geotools.printEnviroment() that dumps down java version, os, wheter native jai is around, geotools version and eventual revision number taken from the jar and so on (with some effort it could even list what gt jars are around looking for the META-INF folders). This is likely to give us accurate report and people just have to add a line of code to their code. Just an idea, I know coding the above takes time. - hum.... what?
