I'm sure it's possible in the sense that what you're describing is just a matter of Javascript (or you could provide it through some server-side functionality), but whether there is support in the GN out-of-the-box discovery interface I do not know. We have been working with GeoExt to begin providing support for that kind of functionality, but we haven't gotten as far as a "shopping cart"-type power. I am curious-- are other groups out there interested in such a line of development? --- A. The workflow would be: Search for metadata => Add results to MapViewer (= shopping basket) => Open MapViewer (in a separate window). In other words, a facility that would allow patrons to gather up layers and featuresets into some kind of queue and then display them in an OpenLayers-based editor, perhaps in a separate viewing window or the like? > > --- > A. For me as a complete user, the excellent functionalities of GN concerning metadata editing, search, harvesting etc. are out of question. Also the embedded Intermap viewer is powerful for viewing and performing basic feature info queries and setting up styles, adding wms services etc. But in our recent project, the requirements to the map viewer will go beyond the capabilities of Intermap, (display in different CRS, editing features in the viewer etc.). >> >> So my simple idea at the moment is: If I have searched for some metadata and have received the results, I can load the data into Intermap using the Interactive map function (OGC web map service 1.1.1 in the OnLine resource section). Would it be possible to change this function into something like "Add Data to OpenLayers", so I can choose several datasets to be added into OpenLayers first and then switch to OpenLayers for further analysis? And what would this mean for me regarding effort and time to spend, and is it worth it, if it is planned to integrate OpenLayers into GN in the near future? >> >> So any suggestions on this problem and information about scheduled new releases of GN with OL are highly welcome. >> >> Regards, >> Heiko >> >> -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- >> Von: Jeroen Ticheler [mailto:Jer...@ge...] >> Gesendet: Mittwoch, 18. There are for sure people that have developed their own GN discovery interfaces, but to claim that "most groups have decided to simply replace the entire GN discovery section with something else" is maybe exaggerating a little, or do you really have stats to support this? It sounds like the default GUI is worth nothing, which I personally don't agree with :-) Many people are happy with general cosmetic changes to the default GUI as far as I know, while some take the effort to develop alternative GUI solutions. >>>> Cheers, >>>> Jeroen >>>> >>>> On Nov 18, 2009, at 3:40 PM, aj...@vi... wrote: >>>> >>>>> As you may have gathered from the discussion, most groups have decided to simply replace the entire GN discovery section with something else >>>> >>> >>> >>> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ >>> Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day >>> trial.
