Hello, everyone.

I've quite often tried to add same-Sex-Relationships to Family-Trees in GenJ. While it is possible, it's not that easy, 'cause GenJ always automatically seems to try to restrict me from choosing the same Sex-/Gender-Option for a newly created Partner for any Individual, at least, without in the same Turn allowing me to change that, somehow. Maybe, this already is fixed, and my Post is outdated. But i guess, it's not, hence there might be many other Tasks, which are considered more important.

    Hi Marcus,
this seems to be a known limitation in the Gedcom format, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GEDCOM#Support_for_varying_definitions_of_families_and_relationships, which is the format used to store the family tree.

Storing the family tree in the GEDCOM X format instead could be a solution to this problem: https://github.com/FamilySearch/gedcomx/blob/master/specifications/conceptual-model-specification.md#relationship

      To quote the GEDCOM specification:

The FAM record may also be used for cultural parallels to this, including nuclear families, marriage, cohabitation, fostering, adoption, and so on, regardless of the gender of the partners. Sex, gender, titles, and roles of partners should not be inferred based on the partner that the HUSB or WIFE structure points to.

Marcus' complaint appears to be that GenJ is making the (rather common) assumption that HUSB is a male and WIFE is a female and preventing Marcus from correcting that assumption until the changes have been committed.
