The Plant Ontology would like to request two terms to describe the apical most parts of a unicellular trichome.

New: unicellular trichome apex (GO:xxxxx): A cell projection part that is the apical most portion of a unicellular trichome (PO:0025537)

New: unicellular trichome tip (GO:xxxxx): A cell projection part that is the apical most portion of a unicellular trichome apex (GO:xxxxx)

We just added a new term to describe the unicellular trichome (PO:0025537):- A trichome (PO:0000282) that is a single plant cell (PO:0009002). is_a trichome, is_a plant cell. comment: This should not be confused with a trichome cell, which is a plant cell (PO:0009002) that is part of a multicellular trichome (PO:0000282).

you can see it here:

    Hi Tanya,

Could you or Donghui take care of this request please? If not, just assign it to me.

    Thanks,
    Paola

    Hi Laurel,

I want to check whether you want the new terms to be part_of unicellular trichome branch as well as is_a cell projection part. The part_of relationship makes sense to me.

    Thanks,

    Tanya

The unicellular trichome apex/tip will not always be part of the unicellular trichome branch, but sometimes will be part of an unbranched unicellular trichome.

but, it would be true that:
    - the unicellular trichome branch has_part unicellular trichome apex
    - unicellular trichome branch has_part unicellular trichome tip

Let me know what you think....L

Aha. I get the has_part. One more question: It sounds like the tip is part_of the apex. Is that right?

    cell projection part (GO:exists)
    --[i] unicellular trichome apex (GO:new1)
    ---[p] unicellular trichome tip (GO:new2)
    --[i] unicellular trichome tip (GO:new2)

Yes the apex (as defined by the PO) is the larger portion of the apical region, with the tip being the very end. Thanks
