Daniel - In an earlier post you indicated that other events could be added to the event list, but the method was unclear to a novice like me. I really need MILITARY as many of my ancestors are either DAR/SAR bases or 1812 and Civil War participants.
Also, I'd like to change the MARR to the first of the Marriage events so when I type "M" it becomes the first choice instead of Marriage Bann.
Can this be done? If so, how do we modify?

Are you talking about the list of events that is automatically added when you add a new person? It is not very friendly, but on Windows you can set it in the registry with regedit.exe or regedt32.exe.
The first step is finding the key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\net\sourceforge\gdbi\editor\bk
Then you add the value: tags. It should be a string with all the gedcom tags you want. "MILITARY" is not a standard tag, and there are 2 unofficial ones, _MILT and _MILI. Assuming it is _MILI, you set tags to:
NAME SEX BIRT DEAT _MILI
Feel free to add a Feature Request for a configuration screen.
As far as MARR, it automatically adds a marriage now. For the order, it is sorted by gedcom tag. I will see if I can sort it by description. You could also try pressing M 4 times.

actually, I was discussing the "list" under SELECT when you hit the Add Event button. You still use a lot of MARR when you use the ADD PARENTS button, a common occurence when adding a spouse to a known person and the parents of that new INDI are known. fastest and easiest to add them there (and the DB is checked for possible dupes), then click on their buttons to add info. At that point, only Birth and Death are listed as events. Using a mac under OS-X, so no REG to modify, and pgv has a _MILI event on their add info INDI page

The event list is not user configurable. I suppose it should be, just like the list of default tags. I guess I will have to add another user-unfriendly registry entry! (and eventually a dialog)
There is an undocumented feature you can use. If you first find a person with the Military event, it adds it to the list until you end the program. Then you can go back to the person you wanted to add it to, and it should be at the end of the list.
You are right about adding parents. It is a bug -- it should add the MARR. I'll work on that.

Thanks - that would be terrific.
Also, simply reorder in the event list, toward the top, the most common, making MARR the first of the "M"s so if you click on select and type M, the MARR event would be selected. Same now with "D" for Death. Also, since Birth is auto added, lets move the BURI burial tag higher on the event list and infront of BAPT and BIRth so that it is selected with the "B".
