Yeah, well my whole problem is that I *do* modify the motion on a per-surface basis, and this is a discrete thing which can ping-pong in rotten ways when you're walking along the seam between surfaces of different types. For example, if you play different animations for Ground and Slide surface movement, you get stuttering when you transition back and forth, even with blending and gradual transitions and such.
