and how would u do that? if ur tree is holding transforms.. u could have ur light attached as a child of an object, while affecting a whole other part of the tree.. using light scope nodes or something like that can help, but it depends on ur pipeline. Subject: RE: [Algorithms] Scene graphs Gotcha :) You can if you make sure you come across the light before anything that is affected by it. Adapted in what way? You certainly can do it this way :) Jamie -----Original Message----- From: Rachid El Guerrab [mailto:ra...@mi...] Sent: 02 August 2001 19:46 To: gda...@li... Subject: RE: [Algorithms] Scene graphs the thing is.. moving lights (and other special objects) should be apdated before u start using them... so u can't render the whole scene in a single scene-graph tarversal. Subject: RE: [Algorithms] Scene graphs My plan: the light has a bounding volume attached to it, so put it in the appropriate node for an object with that bounding volume.... But u activate lights in a > previous frame > and use 'em in the current frame for a simple solution, > otherwise u'll be > doing all kind of strange tarversals (using priorities, > backward tarversal, > single path, etc..) My hack to make it work: The way I ended up solving this was with linked light nodes. The 'torch' node handles transforms, the 'light' node contains the light properties and is placed in a location in the octree where it'll get rendered before any of the contained geometry. Of course moving the light by moving he torh would not see effects until the following frame as by the time you get to the torch the light is already being used to light geometry. Again this method is not ideal. It'll fail I guess when the geometry is bigger than the lights bounds... Whats the proper (or at least a working) way of doing this? _______________________________________________ GDAlgorithms-list mailing list GDA...@li... http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/gdalgorithms-list -Virus scanned and cleared ok _______________________________________________ GDAlgorithms-list mailing list GDA...@li... http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/gdalgorithms-list _______________________________________________ GDAlgorithms-list mailing list GDA...@li... http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/gdalgorithms-list -Virus scanned and cleared ok _______________________________________________ GDAlgorithms-list mailing list GDA...@li... http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/gdalgorithms-list _______________________________________________ GDAlgorithms-list mailing list GDA...@li... http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/gdalgorithms-list -Virus scanned and cleared ok _______________________________________________ GDAlgorithms-list mailing list GDA...@li... http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/gdalgorithms-list |
