Is a good reference about AI in general, and explains well minimax searching
with alpha-beta pruning. If you can use some good heuristic with it, you
should get a fairly playable chess AI. Searching for "AI, minimax,
alpha-beta pruning, heuristic and chess" shoud give you some good links on
google.
