    I'm going to just create hex and flash with pickit3 if I need to use it. I don't want to install xlab or java on the laptop I use due to only 120G drive and dual boots win7 and 10.
    I tried other change properties methods on win 10/7 which are greyed or didn't work as described.
    re Anobium's pk3 and win10...where's start/run? It's mouse right click. I removed cortana search.
    If I try this I'll break something. PK3 did see device on win7 until I installed the gcb pk3.
    ;
    Start by selecting Start/Run, then type SCHEDULER, select the 'TASK SCHEDULER"
    Select 'Import Task' from the middle or righthand window.
    In the file explorer navigate to the directory where you installed the PicKit3, select the PicKit3.XML document, select Open.
    The Create Task dialog will open. Locate the 'Change User or Group' selection box, and
    1. To the left of this, enter your windows userid, OR
    2. Select the 'Change User or Group' selection box, then 'Advanced', the 'Object Types' and select only 'Users', then OK, then 'Find Now' and select your user Name, finally select OK.
    You can inspect the 'Actions' tab to ensure the PicKit settings are correct. Double click the 'start a program'.
    Finally, select 'OK' to create the TASK
    Then, create a new ink with the following paramter.
    C:\Windows\System32\schtasks.exe /run /tn "PicKit3"
    Here's gcb@syn on win 10. Some explanation of the pk2 and 3 folders and updating dat files would be useful for me as I'm not clear about it. I never got past 98.rc3 and the 98 builds I messed up gcb and reinstalled.

    @Stan. Start with the keyboard Windows-R - this is the same as Start/Run.

    Please retry the simple Win10 instructions. Follow them. When you get stuck please re-read the instruction. If a step fails come back and post again.

    I am not going to even try to answer the other questions as they are nothing to do with following the instructions.

    These instructions will enable you to use PicKit3 on Win10. It will make ever programmable by a PicKit3 - read the post with the big list of chips. If the chip is not listed the PickIt3 GUI will not program it currently you WILL HAVE TO MPLAB-IP with JAVA to make it work, or, buy another programmer.

    the pickit3 programmer application v3.10. It contains more zipped files.
    Not much info what to do.
    I will check microchip to see what new pics I'd want cos xpress board was a disappointment.
    brill you're doing support for these newer devices. one day I may appreciate it more when I use one.

      I am not surprised that you found the Xpress board disappointing if you
      were trying to program it with a PICKit3.
      It has its own integrated programs and appears to your PC as flash drive.
      You only have to copy the hex file to it.

        And, Great Cow BASIC includes a utility that automatically transfers the HEX for you from the GCB@SYN IDE. Could not be easier!

    @Stan. A classic post Stan.

    What? What application contains more zipped filed?
    Does it now work under Windows 10?
    Does the method I published work? What adapations to the method would you recommend?

    Sorry to hear the the Xpress board disappointed. I love them. Do send to me!

    Xpress board is like uno board. plug and play usb. sockets,pot,led. Only 1K ram and needs ppi setup and runs at 32MHz. 3.3V logic.
    They clone pickit but not xpress boards. Mine was round £12 from cpc. A real uno is cheaper,faster,more ram and I think have sold in much greater numbers.
    ;
    There's pickit3 programmer application v3.10 zip. Unzipped there's 3 more zip files and readme.txt
    Do I need net4?
    ;
    I didn't try the method to overcome win10 admin rights. I found shift/ctrl rclick ok.
    ;
    Until I start using pics not supported in pk3 gui then I should not be concerned.

    To fix this you need to change the folder permission. uncheck "read only" and then apply.

      Isaac I develop and maintain the PICKItPlus software of the PK2 and PK3.

      The old v3.10 may work as you say but be aware there any many, many limitations of the 2012 v3.10

      I would always recommend getting our software.

      And, not using PICKitMinus which is a plagiarised ripoff of our good works.

      We are just adding 18FxxQ24 to GCBASIC and PICKitPlus. :-)
