    Compilation time
    (Compile time: 4.75 seconds)

      Using the the same source test file. I used the 07 source (edited for comments only) for all tests. Windows 10 usng 32 bit compiler.

      0.98.01   - 13.17
      0.98.02   - 12.15
      0.98.03   -  4.28
      0.98.04   -  4.30
      0.98.05   -  5.30
      0.98.06   -  4.50
      0.98.07   -  4.70

      Performance leap was at 0.98.02 when Hugh changed to linkedlists. This test file used to take 45 seconds in early releases.

      Summary: Performance is ok in 0.98.07

      :-)

    Does having a ssd make a differrence? It speeds windoze up loads.
    I don't lose sleep over the compile time :)

      Fair question. I don't know. My drives are high performance NAS drive with large read/write caches, so, I am seeing improvements in the CPU cycle not the IOs. We need some with SSD and decent Hard Drive to compare and contrast.

        I use SSD, but I guess that is not so important, when we schedule one test more than one time. Most Computers theese days are having enough RAM to cache the small Files we are talking about.
        As Evan I think Clockrate for single threaded Compiler is more important

    I have a Dell with Core I5 operating at 3.2 GHz. Drive is SSD
    Windows10 (64Bit)
    GCB = RC12

    Time = 5.5 sec

      We need to know... 64bit or 32bit compiler... something like...

      Dell with Core I5 operating at 3.2 GHz. Drive is SSD
      Windows10 (64Bit)
      GCB = 0.98.07.RC12 64bt

    I have been away from this site for some time. I posted my speed test long ago but see this is still going on since early 2017. This started out for ANOBIUM to research for a new computer, I hope he has found one (or two) and this is just for fun now.
    Anyway, good to see this site again and need to get myself back to programing again.

      @Paul Haug: We need to get you the latest build... and repeat that test!

    I cuurently have 00.98.05. What is the latest compiler version ? I don't even remember how to get the latest build. Something like C: > GCB@syn > GreatCowBasic > ?????
    Is the program to build the latest in here ? Sorry this may be the wrong place to ask but I have forgotten where and how to update the compliler. Keep in mind I am very old and seem to have forgotten more than I ever knew. (pun intended).
    With my current version the time (ASM) is 5.3 secs, hex is 10.8 sec.

      I got an SSD today. It came preinstalled with Win10.

      So, compare SSD via Western DIgital Drive with cache... SSD is slower.

      SSD - Compilation time
      (Compile time: 3.562744 seconds)
      (Assembly time: 0.9369507 seconds)
      (Download time: 0 seconds)
      (Total time: 4.499695 seconds)

      SATA - Compilation time
      (Compile time: 3.415222 seconds)
      (Assembly time: 0.9406128 seconds)
      (Download time: 0 seconds)

        Did the ssd have ram cache? or it's carp.
        win 10 preinstalled sounds like ebay...you get what you pay for.
        saying that I am awaiting a 240 GB ssd from Jersey for £24 Make integral. I should have looked it up first.

          Dont know. The SSD came from HP! It is a pre-configured SSD drive for this computer.
          So, not eBay. Bit, of big assumption Stan.

            Ok.I misassumed you got it from ebay/amazon cos win 10 installed.
            I have bought a few ssd and cloned the os ..win 10 to the drive. No 2.5 to 4.5 inch adaptor whatever, just double sided tape.
            The win 10 boot and shutdown is noticably faster. In general most programs run faster...if they use the drive but load faster anyway.
            You must have an unusual hdd as usually an equivelent sdd will be be faster.
            They cost 4 times as much so the cheaper ones are not so good ie no ram cache.
            A guy in jersey is selling ssd on ebay,I got one comeing. Laugh..it's for a celeron 1.8GHz.
            I got a 1GB radeon that didn't fit..does now..pliers and a cloned to ssd will be nice...only win 7 but it will have a use. ie it could be a media player as the graphic card has hdmi.
