Avast problem with GCBasic - False positive?

    Hi Guys,

I suspect it's a false positive, but I when I tried to run the latest setup of GCStudio (the full stuff), Avast Premium Security refused to run it. I updated to the latest Avast again today and it also complained. Ran a custom scan on the GCStudio download and it says it has "FileRepMalware". I searched the forum and last mention was in 2020, so figured I'd bring it up again.

On Virustotal the scanning for some of the big name AV's (including Avast) comes up as 'Timeout' - I expect they limit the file size on those particular AV's and 300MB+ might be too big, although Virustotal itself will allow 650MB. There is one AV that complains about it - 'Trapmine - Suspicious.low.ml.score '.

Though I don't know that AV company, so likely only a small one and probably not significant, but obviously Avast is a big player, so whether it's a genuine catch or a false positive, it's a problem.

    Thanks

    False Positive - https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/33efa41efad45269b8b6e4ce9105d007aa5714c20175462a5aeb72800b143c6b

Please white list as this is safe to continue the download.

We have been trying for several months to obtain an application signing certificate. This certificate would allow us to sign the GCstudioSetup.EXE as a trusted installer, which should help eliminate warnings such as the one currently issued by AVAST.

Meanwhile, white list in your AVAST install.

@Angel - it was GCstudioSetup.exe as Anobium mentioned - Just the main green 'Download' button on Sourceforge.

Just to clarify, there was two separate 'issues' (if you could call them that).

    1. Trapmine - which complains "Suspicious.low.ml.score" as you showed in your link. No idea who Trapmine is, not a big player in the AV area, so not so much of a big deal.
    2. Avast Premium Security - Which does not check on VirusTotal, but on my local machine it says it's "FileRepMalware". I searched for what that actually means and it's just a 'File reputation' warning, not a specific virus or any specific malware.

I've never had a problem with GCBasic once it's installed, even when scanned, so yes I also think it's just a false positive, but just wanted to bring it to your attention.

I do understand it's almost certainly a false positive and I trust that Evan would set it right if it was an actual issue, it's just that I thought I should bring it up 'just in case' and also for those that haven't used GCBasic before (and don't know how good it is!).

Thanks again guys for all your efforts and to Evan for the Youtube videos, it is appreciated.
