however i see that sourceforge forum lack a lot of "normal" features
like "view posts since last visit" and MOST importart
it is very painful to post code (have to tab every line !!)
most forums out there have a code quote
i.e.
Preformated code
Regarding posting. I simply select my code in the IDE Editor and indent by one tab then post to the forum.
And, code quote. You can do the same. You can designate a code block by surrounding it with lines of tildes. The type of code highlighting to apply will be inferred based on the code within. See https://sourceforge.net/p/gcbasic/discussion/markdown_syntax#md_ex_code for more details on code formatting.

As we looked at this in 2015 and never heard back from you. But, what issue/problem needs resolving that is not answered about. I subscribe to many forums via RSS (save hours of reading emails including this forum) and code quoting is used very often by users on this forum.

including the only option of RSS, for me is not covient, i dislike to have my mobile ring all the time, that why i have limited my Instamessaging appto minimun.
for codeblock i see it now, maybe it was not existed back then, or i did see it.
main problems are these
)search tool, is very bad, not as expected t osearch for example. my posts, no optiosn at all
)"recent posts since last visit" its my personal most used way to check news in all forums, rss is not the same , and for me unconfortable
) categories and listing is in large blocks and way each other
many stuff like these
something like phpBB, is a way more better
anyway this is a suggestion, from your words i understand that its ok for you.
considering what the rest opinion is.. decition taken :)
as for 2015, noone reply back then (exluding you) so maybe not interest so far
for me i just searching activiry for last 2 months, really mesed up, thinking about cahnging forums, then i remember that i have suggest it again.. it was more correct to push the old post instead of creating a new one, same :)

Moving to alternative. This would involve moving the data, user profiles etc. This would need someone to assess the feasibility and the lead to migration project.
The changes you ask for may already be available, some may not. To find out open a ticket with SFOps - if you dont want to then when I get time I can open a ticket with SFOps. I am not pushing you off - I dont know the correct answers and SFOps will know the correct answer.

The assessment has to understand the options of stay, work in a mix mode, or migrate. What are the options, how would it work etc from a user perspective.
A proper assessment is needed before anyone can make an informed decision.
I think a short 'statement of what the assessment would achieve' is the way to move this forward. Need to address the key questions of What are the options? What is the transformation project?

my suggestion to all comunity is based in the fact that most people also, like me, found this forum difficult to use.
if the majority of hte community feels ok with this forum, my suggestion has no point at all.
move to new forums is like stop posting here (lock if possible) and change urls in site.
anyone (new) who wants to find a forum obvioulsy it will first look in site for link.
we can also investigate if it is possible to move current data, which will be the ideal solution.

-. Application - support
-. Admin and User experience
-. Transistion plan (the work to get ready for any change
-. Transformation plan (the work to move from one platform to another, including userIDs, passwords and ACLs)
-. Costs and time estimate

This is not as simple. This would need some analysis.

I too initially had issues with SF as a Forum because I was used to Forum software such as phpBB. But every forum I use these days has a different look and feel, a different syntax for simple tasks and often a different configuration within the same software. Old Reddit vs New Reddit being a case in point.
Before long I learnt to like the simple set of features that SF provides.
It has its idiosyncrasies and you occasionally need a workaround but it is no harder to use than any other forum once you take the trouble to learn it.
Honestly, if one can learn a programming language and most of the people here have experience in more than one, then a forum is easy to learn.
I receive all SF posts as email and that is rarely more than 5 emails a day.
I don't use RSS.
If I need to do a detailed search I use a Google search that specifies the Forum URL.
If I need to format and spell check a document I use google docs as the editor and paste into SF.
Having to post images as attachments can be a pain but you can then use that link or just host your image elsewhere and use the image address in the body of the post.
A bit of time spent by each user learning the software is far better than hours of time and admin that would be spent on moving, migrating, merging, advertising and building forums on 3rd party websites.
That time would be far better spent on GCBASIC Language development, supporting more devices and adding libraries, that is after all the main focus.
My 2c for what it is worth

I have never taken or posted a Video and when others have a video for me to watch they normally post a link to it.
That said, When Creating or editing a post make use of the ToolBar that SF Provides and if you're stuck press the "Formatting Help" Icon, it is a white ? in a black Circle.
It even shows you how to embed video or atleast link a Youtube Video, SF is not a Video Host of itself.
Chris sir, copying the youtube address of a video I created on youtube and pasteing into a gcb forum reply is no problem...it's having to create it in youtube....facebook I can post a mp4 file.

I must say firstly that I find all the SourceForge hosted forums to be horrible to navigate, finding the latest post on any topic means I have to scroll through all prior posts to try and locate any new ones. I had some success subscribing to the RSS feed but the RSS clients for macOS that I installed all failed after a period of time. Apple Mail no longer offers RSS subscription either.
Saying that, I can't see that moving the forum would be worth the pain. Yes, a different host might be easier to navigate, it might look better and even offer more features such as direct hosting of videos. But the pain of moving would be horrendous, absolute agony. As someone who used to run a forum I know how much effort goes into running them and I'm certain I would not want to be trying to move one set of data across to a new host.
The forum I ran for the Renault Wind car in the UK (now called the "Alternative Forum For the Renault Wind" following a fallout between administrators some time after I left) was hosted by ForumMotion. The basic hosting was free, but all images had to be external as did videos. They could be added, along with having the adverts removed from the forum, but these were paid for options, not included in the "free" version. Changing the colour theme was a paid for option, though this could be circumvented to a degree if you were prepared to put some effort in and change the individual colours (of every element!) rather than using a paid for theme.
So, yes SourceForge is a pain to navigate, but is it really so bad? Would you get the extra features you want on any other forum host without needing to pay for those features? If the features (such as native picture and video hosting) are paid for, how do you propose to pay for them?

I think the ideas presented are good and maybe it is time to make an ask of the Sourceforge team like Anobium says. A long time ago I remember we made some asks thru their ticket system, and in due time, low an behold, the changes were made. I can't remember even what the asks were, but it may have been back when the forum was being bombarded with spam.
I like the idea firstly presented about being able to see the number of posts not read, and being able to jump right to the first unread post.
Another idea i like, maybe already suggested, is to see ALL the posts in chronological order or as the most recent posts. Yeah think that was mentioned already.
Another +1 on the ability to have an advanced search with dates, posters name etc. You get too many results a lot of the times now.
Not having to have a hosted link for images or videos is a definite plus of the current system for sure. It stinks when someone like Photobucket pulls the rug out from under you, and all your links go kaput, not cool.
