Hello All, The past week I've been working on a hardware & software solution to interface SD- and MMC memorycards to the cube. I've attached the driver source to this message. The source includes a description on how to link the cube and the card. No electronics are required except a capacitor (it might even work without that). I know the drivers should be put in CVS, but as of yet I do not have CVS access. If other developers are interested, I might make some units on PCB and send them for free, so more people can test. If it proves usefull, I could make a more detailled howto to put on the web. Kind Regards, Rob Reilink |

I don't understand exactly what you mean by "route together". I would guess you need masquerading in the router so you can access the internet from the Gamecube (but it seems you are describing something else). As Matt sugested you can also configure your router as a bridge. That gets you the same result as if you connected the Gamecube, the router and the cable modem to the same hub (which would leave one nic in router unused and it would no longer be a router). With this setup you might not be able to access the internet with the Gamecube since it doesn't have a valid IP-address for internet access. OR the Gamecube will allocate a valid IP-address (in the same way as the router does), but your internet provider might not allow this. (Or is it the cable modem that hands out the IP-addresses and also acts as a masquerade router?) |

Instead of 'you guys' recompiling the kernel you can also open the .DOL in a binary/hex editor and search for 192.168 to change the IP of the cube. The ip of the NBD server is in a comperssed initrd, so that won't be changed this way. Using an NFS-root kernel and a Windows NFS server, it could also work. If you have Windows XP you can select both connections and click "Bridge" - this will merge them into one interface exactly as you want. I have the same thing but on a FreeBSD server; NIC A ---> router ---> internet NIC B ---> gigabit switch ---> multiple platforms NIC C (54mbit wireless) --> laptops By bridging A and B, you effectively create yourself a software ethernet switch which the machine treats as a single IP address. As long as you configure each machine on the network properly (ip, subnet, gateway etc.) it will all Just Work (tm). Any firewall configured for the bridge interface will act on packets from all original interfaces (this is great as it allows you to have multiple physical lans controlled by one firewall) With Windows 2000 and below you may have a little trouble because it's not built in; last time I checked there was a little tool called EtherBridge (website at - http://www.ntkernel.com/utilities/etherbridge.shtml) which worked, but that site's been down for a while for me. I have a copy of the last version I used if you want to try it. -- Matt Sealey <ma...@ge...> Genesi, Manager, Developer Relations > -----Original Message----- > From: gc-...@li... > [mailto:gc-...@li...]On Behalf Of Kevin > Sucre > Sent: 30 October 2004 22:39 > To: gc-...@li... > Subject: [Gc-linux-devel] Networking the cube > > > Hey guys, > > I have a slighty problem. Hey guys, I have a slighty problem. I have 2 nic cards, and i want to route them together. SMC #1 as NICA SMC #2 as NICB NICA ---> router(192.168.1.1) ---> cable modem ----> internet NICB ---> Gamecube(192.168.0.47) NICA ip address is 192.168.1.101 gw 192.168.1.1 NICB ip address is 192.168.0.49 oh, btw this is in a windows environment I've tried WIN ICS and it changes the ip of NICB to 192.168.0.1, which then loses connection of the nbd server(root filesystem), and Gc-linux is broken. What i guess i need is either A) recompile kernel to load root filesystem from 192.168.0.1 or figure out how to route NICA, to NICB correctly. any help is appreciated. Regards, Kevin Sucre |

Port 4 is no longer required. Instead you can use any port and the driver w= ould detect what kind of device is on what port (currently works for standa= rd pads, wavebird and the keyboard). HOWEVER, the keyboard detection code is very buggy, since nobody seems to k= now how it should be done. Pads are recognized normally afaik, but the keyb= oard can have a hard time. If anybody can improve this, all help is appreci= ated. :) Steven Looman (Steve_-) On Wed, Oct 27, 2004 at 09:26:00PM -0000, ks...@sh... wrote: > okay sacha. >=20 >=20 > its not working in port4, does anyone know or test the gameshark keyboard= , =20 > im using the latest kernel build of the gc linux.. > somewhere around the 10.21.04 version of the kernel.... >=20 > any ideas people? >=20 >=20 > -Kevin Sucre >=20 >=20 >=20 >=20 > On Thu, 28 Oct 2004 01:09:50 +0200, Sascha Kwiatkowski <ma...@sa...>= =20 > wrote: >=20 > >Hi Kevin, > > > >AFAIK the keyboard has to be connected to the 4th port, not the 1st. > >Just test it with Port 4, that should work without any problem... > > > >Regards > >Sascha > > > > > >Kevin Sucre wrote: > > > >>Hey anyone got the gameshark keyboard working with gc-linux? Well i think i was getting it done with a VMWARE awhile back, but thats pretty clunky. i want to be able to do stuff on my computer while gcube is on. Having vmware is pretty chunky on my system. i wish i could make a file like 500 mb, then format a linux partition on it, and then copy the files onto it, then share it to the gcube but i dont think this facility exists. regards, Kevin Sucre "Kevin Sucre" <ks...@sh...> wrote in message news:cla1cm$9av$1...@se...... >I downloaded Windows Services for Unix and used it for the NFS server. > > The cube almost boots up. i beleive there is an error with unpacking the > tar.gz debian boot package. because it complains about > not having an inital console, and i should pass something to the kernel. > > Anyone get cube booting in windows? > > Dont need to be using Windows Servies for Unix, if you got it working with > something else please let me know. > > Kevin Sucre > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by: IT Product Guide on ITManagersJournal > Use IT products in your business? There's no reason to export the *ENTIRE* root filesystem as NFS. -- Matt Sealey <ma...@ge...> Manager, Genesi, Developer Relations > -----Original Message----- > From: gc-...@li... > [mailto:gc-...@li...] On Behalf > Of Steven Looman > Sent: 22 October 2004 07:51 > To: gc-...@li... > Subject: Re: [Gc-linux-devel] BOOTING IN WINDOWS!! > > It complains about not having the special files in /dev/. > Windows is probably not able to do this, so I guess you're > out of luck. It would be great if this would work. I meant to try it but I don't know enough about NFS yet. If you want to try another solution, you can use coLinux as an NFS server. I went as far as setting it up as an NFS server on my pc, but I got sidetracked :) and never got to actually plugging my cube into it. I think you'll have an easier time with coLinux. Just remember to use bridged networking. It complains about not having the special files in /dev/. Windows is probably not able to do this, so I guess you're out of luck. Probably the same thing for files/executable that have the SUID bit set. The Mame PoC uses the netblock driver, which mounts a file over a network and uses it as a "block device" (like a harddisk is). However, it's not possible to do this trick on the debian root package since the nbd-client gets killed when switching runlevels and the root device is lost, kind of like pulling your harddrive out of your computer while it's running. Tmbinc made a kind of 'modchip' to allow loading code from an action replay memory card. The website used to be http://debugmo.de/gc/gc.html, but I don't seem to be able to access it right now. I started making something the like: a 'modchip' with a parallel printer port connection which loads code from a pc. Unfortunately, it's not stable enough to be quite usable, and since I am not allowed to tell anyone the code I extracted from the GC, I won't be able to publish it in a way that others can contribute. Also, currently I unfortunately have very little time to continue working on it Rob > -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- > Van: gc-...@li... > [mailto:gc-...@li...] Namens Groepaz > Verzonden: donderdag 21 oktober 2004 17:59 > Aan: gc-...@li... > Onderwerp: Re: [Gc-linux-devel] Re: Chaos Communication > Congress 2004 (Berlin) > > > On Thursday 21 October 2004 17:45, Thomas wrote: > > > this is pretty much only a usb memory card.... maybe in > combination > > > with the action-replay it can be used to run code, but i > dont think > > > anyone has tried that yet. if that worked it would > actually make it > > > unnecessary to have PSO or even the BBA (for short > programs that fit > > > on the memcard) > > > > you can directly execute files from a memorycard with > action-replay ? > > yeah...read up on the gcdev forums.... in a nutshell, you > make a cheatcode to patch action replay itself so it loads > code from a memory card > > > but this would be more interesting to me: can you load and execute > > code > > with action-replay over the network without the use of PSO ? > > no, you need PSO to prepare the memcard for action replay > once....or well, you spend a week typing in endless colums of > cheatcodes :o) > > > ...or which other possibilities than the PSO-method are there ? > > to date, none...like i said, you could get around it with a > usb-memory card and action replay, but afaik noone tested that yet > > gpz > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by: IT Product Guide on > ITManagersJournal Use IT products in your business? I downloaded Windows Services for Unix and used it for the NFS server. The cube almost boots up. i beleive there is an error with unpacking the tar.gz debian boot package. because it complains about not having an inital console, and i should pass something to the kernel. Anyone get cube booting in windows? Dont need to be using Windows Servies for Unix, if you got it working with something else please let me know. Kevin Sucre |
