Hello
I try to install ATI-6.7.0-exp1.386.tar.gz into a
machine, but it seem not run correctly.
Hardware to this PC is :
AMD-Barton2500, MSI motherboard with nforce2 chipset,
Ram = 2 X 256 Mo, Hdd 80Go Western-Digital
Video controller is : ATI AIW 128 pro 32 Mo (AGP 4X)
On card i can read Bios on chips => R128P 65605 and i
see chip : Rage theater and MSP 3415D (for audio)
In other Operating System i can look :
Asic Rage 128 pro
id asic 5046
vertion bios 001.001.002.002
reference bios 113-65605-101
date bios 2000/02/03
And in multimedia section, i see :
audio ITT MSP3415 europe
TypeSyntoniseur Philips FI 1216MF
Standard video PAL-B/G SECAM
But i want run on Linux !
I run on Linux Slackware 10.2, kernel is
linux-2.6.13, also linux-2.6.17-7 and XORG-6.9.0
When i look at GATOS, i look it talk about xfree 4.1
or 4.2 or 4.3 but no much about xorg
But i try the drivers ATI-6.7.0-exp1.386.tar.gz.
When i look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log i can't see any
information about multimedia hardware in the board
AIW128.
I replace the drivers ATI-6.7.0-exp1.386.tar.gz
at /usr/X11R6/lib/modules (drivers, mltimedia, dri )
and i restart xorg or reboot my computer.
But /var/log/Xorg.0.log has no change.
Can you give me some informations about configuration
to /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Must i install KM ?
And can i use xdtv or xawtv to record the TV ?
So i try to install genericv4l and i sent report from
eric seller but AIW-128 pro is not well supported.
Can i use this board to acquire TV with Linux ?

This board will work very well, but only under certian
conditions! XawTV will work fine as well as TV & Video
capture. Apparantly support from GATOS is no longer
available, and the drivers for this card have not been
updated (ELF) to work with the latest versions of Xorg.
(Xorg has not maintained backwards compatibility to ver
6.7). However, if you use Xorg ver 6.7 and and the ATI
drivers ver 4.2.0 from GATOS everything should work fine.
Xorg versions newer than 6.7 will not work with these
drivers, I've been trying to make them work with Xorg ver
6.9 but o far -- no success. XawTV will work but Video & TV
capture is best accomplished with AVview. You will also need
to load KM (modules km_drv & km_api_drv) which will create
the necessary /dev/v4l/video0 for video capture.
I don't know what Slackware comes with so I can't
guarantee this will work for you(it should if you are using
Xorg 6.7) I have it working fine on Mandrake 10.1 but still
can't get it working on Mandriva 2006 as it uses Xorg 6.9.

Hi and thank for your response.
I try to install Xorg-6.7.0 and i replace the GATOS drivers
into /usr/X11R6 directory
My computer run with kernel 2.4.32 (original Slackware)
I install KM-0.6.1. and i see your instructions.
But no response when i look into Xorg.0.log. (joint file)
- So, i give my /etc/xorg.conf (if you see a bug or error ?)
- Why there are no drivers for r128 into GATOS drivers ?
Can you give me how to configure xorg ? because i try some
options (dri, v4l, and other but no result)
Or i search an example about xorg.conf to run with
AIW-128-pro and correct configuration of multimedia hardware.
- Please, can you give me a sample of your xorg.conf or
xfree86.conf?
When i look avout install of KM, i see a message about "devfs"
for install KM, must i param devfs into my kernel and my
fstab or mtab ?
You use devfs ? for grab or capture video with AIW128 ?
Thank
my xorg configuration an xorg.0.log

O.K. Lets take this one step at a time!
1 - You are using Xorg 6.7? Yes? anything newer WILL NOT WORK!
2 - I'm using kernel 2.6.8.1, However you're 2.4 kernel
should work also. (I think!)
3 - Forget about trying to install KM for now, that can come
later, after we get Xorg to load the drivers for you're ATI
card.
4 - Go to /usr/X11R6 and backup this directory in case you
mess something up.
5 - Now go to /usr/X11R6/lib/modules and verify the following:
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri contains r128_dri.so 1485192
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers contains ati_drv.o 41703
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers contains atimisc_drv.o 148516
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers contains r128_drv.o 112954
verify that /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/linux contains
v4l_drv.o 13866
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/multimedia contains the following:
bt829_drv.o 8155
fi1236_drv.o 8902
msp3430_drv.o 7660
saa7114_drv.o 2464
tda8425_drv.o 2203
tda9850_drv.o 3241
tda9885_drv.o 2603
theatre_drv.o 28878
If you do not have these drivers you can download them from
the GATOS site, they are in 4.2.0!
Now when you re-boot XawTV should be able to display TV and
you can verify the loading of the correct modules in
/var/log/Xorg.0.log. Once you have TV working you can then
proceed to make AVview work, It will then tell you to load KM.
You can also verify that you're Xorg.conf contains the
following in the Section "Module"
Load "dbe"
Load "extmod"
load "type1"
load "freetype"
load "glx"
load "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.a
Hopefully this wil get you going!

Another solution! If you only want to watch TV,
Xawtv -xvport 65 should work without any ATI drivers
installed, and it also works on any version of Xorg.
xawtv -hwscan will tell you if this will work.
