The useer screen sometimes turns grey and nothing can be seen any more. If you click over the screen only the upper left corner will appear that at least give you a chance to save and reopen.
Could you please describe your environment: OS, JRE, GanttProject look'n'feel (aka Appearance, see our settings dialog) any visual styles/theme software which is installed (if you are on Windows) or desktop environment (if your are on linux) ?

I am using ganttproject on a normal desktop , windows XP envirnoment with the standard settings. Problem occured 3 timws. Mostly when trying to drag project bars (timelines)
