Try cygwin.  It's hard to beat the flexibility of *nix command shells.  It's 
burdensome to use CVS on windows without it (unless your using wincvs).

Yeah, a KDE customized is much nicer than the vanilla windows desktop.
I have friends that have been succesfully running KDE on W2K using cygwin.  I 
haven't done it personally though.

Although, it ran pretty slow on a P2-350, 128MB, W2K.

Now all we need is a hardware accelerated, double buffered desktop.
