I'd say the social aspect is extremely important. Game development is a team activity. Any programmer/coder/engineer in a functional team is going to have to interact frequently with other programmers/artists/designers. Someone who can't interact in a normal way with the rest of the team, even in situations of stress and personal critique, could be a liability to the team. But that's very different than not talking very much or not liking the same TV shows as the rest of the team. While on the subject, something else to look for in a team member that I don't think anybody has mentioned: Diversity. Getting people from different backgrounds, different companies (very important!), who approach problems in different ways, think differently, have different hobbies, read different books, and play different games can only strengthen your team in the long run. You just have to keep them from killing each other :-) --Noel Games from Within http://www.gamesfromwithin.com |
