People who don't learn anything new usually either feel they have nothing to learn (uh, oh!) or they're not motivated enough to look beyond their assigned tasks. But probably the one single, biggest thing I'm looking for is whether they can work as part of a team. A guy can be the best "coder" in the world, but if he can't work well with the rest of the team is going to be pretty useless. A lot of this is just gut feeling and it requires that personalities "click" together. Once you have those two basis covered, the rest is relatively easy stuff.
