Actually in a sense both comments are true :-)

If you read XML in a text editor that doesn't have any specific XML features
then it is not THAT easy to read. However, there are lots of tools in 
existance
that can browse XML files in a more structured way. And in that sense
it becomes very easy to read. This is also one of the advantages of XML. 
There
are so many tools available.
