So applying a diff is a doddle, surely? Hum, of course the whole get operation will eventually be faster, but the PC resources will totaly go down, and the machine will crawl. If you don't have any particular treatment to perform on the data coming from the server, you can afford to use functions like "CopyFileEx", and basicaly the whole operation will not even be noticeable (except for disk usage) by the user.
