Check out the latest Dr. Dobbs magazine for an article by the author of 
the D programming language.  I only breezed through it but plan to return 
to the examples.  D is, as you would expect, a follow up to C/C++ that 
abandons backward compatiblity in an effort to improve the language while 
retaining familiar syntax.  It includes support for design by contract 
concepts.
