That was me, and I didn't mean it that way!  I meant it as a criticism
of the people Brian mentioned who can't do any productive work without
their .emacs file.  I.e. it's their fault, not emacs' fault or anyone
else's.  (Especially in this case, since emacs is free and easy to
install...)

Also, I think that adage has another important meaning, which is that
a good workman will seek out effective tools; i.e. I think this is a
worthwhile discussion.
